The other thing I did (and sometimes still do if a littlie pops into bed with us) is sleep with my arm gently round/over ds - means dh would roll onto my arm/hand first or now to make sure ds's don't fall out of bed
i put my side of the bed against the wall and put my arm around her when she was in the middle like you mentioned that way i could use either boob for breastfeeding with minimal disruption to sleep0 -
Confuzzled.... do you have beetroot pickle recipe ??Confuzzled wrote: »i actually prefer the sweetened pickled beetroot so i'd probably just put something together myself to make sure it was sweet, i simply can't stand the vinegary variety. i am open to suggestions for recipes though
Was in the charity shop today chatting to one of the elderly ladies there and she gave me this recipe for ...... BEETROOT :j
Take some cooked, peeled beetroot and dice it up fairly small. She didn't say how much, so I have cheated and bought two vacuum packs of cooked beetroot.
Next make up a pack of full sugar (not low sugar) Raspberry jelly using boiling vinegar instead of boiling water. She said she uses white vinegar, but any vinegar will do apparently. So, in the spirit of this forum, I intend to use the leftover vinegar from a jar of pickles :money:.
Mix the beetroot into the jelly and pour into a mould. Leave to set in the fridge. She said she doesn't know how long it keeps as her family eat it up as fast as she can make it :rotfl:. I am going to try putting it into hot jars like a preserve.
I will probably make it this weekend, but if anyone beats me to it - please let us all know what it is like. The lady in the charity shop is quite excited that her mothers' recipe is going to be on "Martins' website""Men are generally more careful of the breed(ing) of their horses and dogs than of their children" - William Penn 1644-1718

oo frugalista keep us posted!
Can confirm that I have seen a lesser spotted weezl who is handwashing and spinning...reducing elec costs and doing so with more grace than I could ever muster! (she says typing with cool fan on, a light and tv as well as latop!)...Ferg the frugal lump (but a very gorgeous edible lump) I suspect is less frugal and has a tummy to rival buddah but much cuter with it. After a carp weeks work a laugh with a weezl and hug with a Ferg makes it all better. Blessd am I!
Would be interested to know (after the "switch off" how many people are interested in the "meet". I appreciate it will be too far for some but was wondering who may turn up "locally"?Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! Even in the darkest moments, love and hope are always possible.0 -
SusanC, I tried using a muslin as nappy like you said, I folded in thirds like a bambino mio inner, is that right? He seemed to soak it much quicker did you find that with Alice?Any question, comment or opinion is not intended to be criticism of anyone else.2 Samuel 12:23 Romans 8:28 Psalm 30:5

I'm sorry to say I do know someone whose grandchild died because one of the parents rolled on him in the middle of the night.0 -

:oWhoops ...sorry Shaz
I know what you mean, about making a decent red wine though, as I too struggled...
But last year, I made one from elderberries, blacberries, blackcurrants, and sloe berries.... It is very lovely. Its actually a CJJJJJJJ Berry recipe - which I losely followed
I cant wait till August/September to start the foraging process to make more :jcraftynutters wrote: »
Thanks
Will give that a wee look laterConfuzzled wrote: »and i'm happy to share a vague idea of any 'recipes' i make but please don't try to get me to nail it down to specifics, i don't cook like that. in fact i normally only use a recipe as a basic guideline, i tend to cook on the fly and make a lot of substitutions or additons... i actually cringe when people beg me for a recipe, how in the world do you write down something like that style of cooking?:rotfl:
No.. I'm not so good at sticking to a recipe either...
I always have to "personalise" it0 -
has anyone used apples to make their own pectin for jam?
we've just been strawberry picking and DD fancies making jam. when I make blackcurrant jam I just use granulated sugar but I know strawberry jam needs the extra pectin.
also picked some gooseberries so we could try the River Cottage recipe of strawberry and gooseberry jam, but I fancy making something else with the gooseberries as well. managed to find a couple of elderflowers to go with them too.
does anyone have any fave gooseberry recipes? I confess that today is only the second time I've ever eaten one - I tried an unripe one when I was about 7 and it put me off for life! It was only my children telling me that they were nice that convinced me to give them another try.weaving through the chaos...0 -

I do love a gooseberry crumble :drool:0
