For what you want, spending 1.5-3K on a Corsa/Punto/Fiesta/106/Saxo etc is probably better value.Happy chappy0

Best thing you can do is get a Picanto, or Getz. A few hundred more than a Alto but worth every penny.
Hyundai Getz pre-reg 5 door for £5495

Totally agree with Arrowsmith.
The Hyundai is an order of magnitude better than the Suzuki, and comes with a 5-year warranty and 3 years servicing which is worth the extra £500, and then some, and in addition the warranty sures up the resale value, which at 3 years old is now better than average for a supermini if you look at what 3yo Getzes are going for against the £5-6K everyone is paying for them new. The Getz also has a very good reputation for reliability (the engines and transmissions are essentially Mitsubishi units which are as good as anything Toyota or Honda produce), and is as well built as most "top-brand" superminis out there. It also has a 4-star safety NCAP rating which is pretty much as good as this class of car gets.
£500 very well spent IMO. To be perfectly honest, this car represents better value than the French/Italian competition. The 106/Saxo don't have the best reputation and actually are far, far less safe in a crash than the Hyundai.0
