Here's a website I just found - it looks like it might have some interesting stuff on it.

Well the dream of having duck eggs has come to an end. We found one of our ducks mounting one of the hens this afternoon. Closer inspection of the tail feathers revealed we had been sold two boys, not two girls, and they've been worrying the hens for sex.
They have to go.
Edited to add: mind you I guess it simplifies things from a care perspective. Still feel guilty my lovely little chicken was putting up with that.0 -
What a shame Cottage Economy, duck eggs are lovely.0

We've been wondering over the last few days when they would start laying as well!
No-one's fault really although I am angry we were assured they were females. The had all the characteristics of girls and they were quite old when we got them, but it seems hormones must have kicked in and everything changed, from plumage to voices.0 -
Just went to the Choosing Voluntary Simplicity site to read some more posts and out of curiosity clicked on the Links link.
A vertible feast of blogs and websites that have linked to this site. There must be a couple of hundred!

Well, as of Sunday our life simplifies a little.
We have found homes for our drakes thankfully - someone who will care for them and not put them in the pot as many people do with boy ducks. We charged for them to put off those who think they would be able to get a cheap duck dinner by pretending to want them as pets (nothing surprises me in these austerity times any more) and they go with their duck house and water trug to make sure they settle in.
We've done the best we can for them so I hope they settle into their new surroundings quickly and are happy.0 -

Well its days like today im glad i have a simplified life. Its been a lovely sunny day and ive been pottering about in the small patch of garden (very small) tidying and cleaning. I cant really plant much so im going to plant in pots this year. I had my brunch outside with a cup of coffee, sitting on the decking and thinking of the days when i used to dread mondays. I might not have much money but so far this year ive managed to save for one holiday (all paid for) and one weekend away with friends (part paid for). Just by being more frugal and not wasting food or buying things i really dont need. I feel more calm about my life.0

This afternoon I had to go to DS house to wait in for a workman and took DD with me. There's no tv or internet there, and the heating wasn't on (he's just moved in and I didn't know where the CH thingy was!). We sat wrapped in blankets with hot drinks, reading and playing with DGS toys - the latter DD not me! She kept saying how nice and quiet it was, and it was peaceful and calm.
I've missed days like this, it feels like we've been running around for years, so besides leaving my main job I've cut back on voluntary things I do, so I can pace myself with everything else. I think that's one of the key things for me - I don't mind being busy, but I hate the rushing from one thing to the next, without doing anything justice.
I'm VERY slowly starting to feel more calm - it will take a long time, and there are so many things to pare down before I'm where I want to be, but I feel that this year will be very productive from that point of view.

Wasn't it a glorious day today ,ok it was a wee bit windy at times but just to see the crocus' just appear almost overnight with a tiny bit of sun to help them out was terrific I live in Kent (the Garden of England ) and I appreciate life so much more when the sun shines and things seem so much brighter I know it means you can see where the dust has been sitting for awhile
:) but thats what 'spring cleaning' is about and just to see a bit of blue sky today was gorgeous even if it was a bit breezy and frosty this morning by lunchtime it was lovely .I look after four of my DGS after school and the three youngest ones went out to have a bounce on their trampoline and to see them so excited that they could play out in the garden after school was priceless, bless them. The nights are drawing slowly out and soone the clocks will change and winter will be a thing of the past for a little while Life is good, and simple things cost almost nothing if you think about it.
