Tyres

Hi

I am calling on all MSE for there great advice.
Where is the best place to buy a tyre, I have been quoted £79 not including fitting or tracking and that is to put it on my existing alloy wheel, I got the £79 price from KwikFit, only because they are the only people who give quotes online for tyres far as I know.
Can anyone recommend a good value and quality garage to fit tyres?

Also I need garage to replace a cable in the engine bay, been quoted £60 per hour by main dealer (Ford) anyone know if there is any where else cheaper?

Thanks in advance

    I am looking for a 205/55V15.
Not really wanting to pay more than £50 for one.
I can't fix the old tyre as it had a blow out.

You will get 'budget' tyres for less than £50 but not premium brand ones. If you only do urban type driving you will probably be ok, if you spend most of the time on the motorway, or high speed driving, I would think twice about scrimping on cheaper budget tyres.

I only need budget I think because I only do around town driving and don't use the motorway very often.
I got afew prices from the places you mentioned, how do I go about taking them up? Can I just go to my nearest fitting centre and they will give me the same price or should I print out the quote and take that along with me to get that price?

    Thanks again for your help:D

Just open up the yellow pages and phone round a few tyre depots asking for prices (inc fitting/valve/balancing/vat) in your size, and what they have in stock etc

I find local independants are better for price/service than the nationals
  • Does everything have to be done online nowadays, whats wrong with just callin into a couple of tyre places and just asking for goodness sake. You shouldnt have too much problem getting budget 205/55/15 for less than £50, just try local small retailers who more than often are just as good if not better than the multinationals, they wont have a website more than likely, but there should be a living breathing talking bloke who can give you a quote
  • for this price range i would totally recommend finding someone local who sells federal 535 super steels, i got 4 of these a few times now, 205/50/16,this is a bigger tyre than yours with a lower profile, and i got these fitted for £55 each locally.
the websites mentioned above either dont do them or are over priced for federals, the only website i found with federal sizes and prices online was camskill (google it) but you will need to get them fitted locally.
this tyre is a great budget priced tyre, but it performs great in wet and dry.

but remember get the 535 or the 595 super steel dont get any of the other federals as they are rubbish.

only if you want things cheaper. Kwik Fit wanted £165 per tyre, i can get someone to come to my place of work and fit/balance the tyre for £134 (myetyres.com)

Oh and Ratoutille PS2 games is £14.99 in PC World, i can get it from £4.99 delievered frm Game.
  • Thanks everyone for all your replies.
Will ring a few places in the morning.
The other thing is, as I said I need a new cable fitted in the engine bay, can't really be done yourself and main dealer have said they charge £60 an hour plus parts and the job will take around 1hour 1/2, so am I best looking around for this or is £60 an hour a good price?
