Anyone know how to claim for an internally rusted boiler in a new build?

Can anyone offer advice.
Husband and I moved into BRAND NEW house in April 2004. Fairclough Homes was the builder.
March of this year boiler leaked and had to be replaced due to internal rusting of the system. Engineer who did the job has stated that an anti rusting product was not added in his opinion and will state this in writing if we need it . We still have the rusted boiler. Several other neighbours have also had exactly the same problem.
I have claimed for bank charges and stuff like that before, but don't know how to go about this. Would it be better to claim en masse? I don't fancy having to do it on behalf of everyone else really, but if it helps our claim then I will.
Total cost of new boiler was £1577.
Any advice would be appreciated. :confused:

    What is the make and model of the boiler? it is hard to see why a 2004 boiler was a complete write-off due to a leak.

    P.S. To actually answer your question, it would, IMO, be impossible to claim for anything in any event. Who is to say that in the intervening four year period that any inhibitor was lost due to the householder draining and refilling the system?
  • The boiler was a Baxi Solo 3 if that makes a difference.
    There was also a " faulty ball valve to an unvented cylinder" which was also fixed when the new boiler was fitted.

    Doesn't your 10 yr NHBC certificate not cover for things like this, an ex-colleague of mines had a similar problem, but it was less than 2 yrs old, he ended up taking the house builder to a small claims court for the cost of a new boiler, they didn't show at court and the sheriff(IN scotland) made them pay. Of course you have to prove they were negligent if they show up.

    Does the boiler require an annual service (check your warranty)? Did you get it serviced according to instructions? If you did it seems surprising that the rust wasn't spotted earlier on (I am not a boiler expert I just would have thought for rust to destroy it would have taken a long time and should have been spotted during the regular services and then something done to prevent it getting any worse).
