Routers

Hi all. I was wondering if routers make a difference to the internet. I was with BT and I used there home hub with no problems.I have now joined o2 and I'm using there router with no problems, but if I purchased a Netgear DG 864G would I actually notice any difference.:beer:

no, if you are talking about download speed, that is more to do with your cabling, distance from exchange, and isp

Potentially yes in future, if the O2 router is a cheap & nasty one that doesn't support ADSL2+. If it doesn't you are not going to get any higher than 8Mb/s downstream rate when (if) your line is upgraded.

Many thanks for the reply but as I live in the wilds of Corrnwall it will probably be years before we can receive the faster o2 speeds. We always seem to be the last for any new technology down here(big sigh cos smileys aren't working)

Ah, you might notice a difference then. Netgears give better throughput on low quality signals so if you've got a 1-2Mbit connection, you may benefit.
