Best fixed-rate savings account at this time?

Hello, all!
Could anyone please advise on the best fixed-rate savings account at the current time? I am looking to lock my money away for a year or possibly two years. I need to avoid Nationwide, with whom I already have too many savings.
I know Martin advises on this subject, but the advice is not always completely up to date, hence my query.
Help greatly appreciated.

We're also in a similar situation with a bond finishing this month with Skipton. Their new bond is approx 6.05%, and we also having enough savings with Nationwide.0

Cant see the problem with Nationwide. If they go under then it will be at the stage of a total banking system collaspe ie. you'll be fighting to stay alive let alone worry about money in a bank.0

Some Building Society Accounts to consider:
Chelsea B.S. 6.6% 1-Year fixed rate/ 6.3% 2-Year fixed rate

Leeds B.S. RPI growth +2.25% taxable 2-Year fixed term.

Britannia B.S. RPI growth +1.75% taxable 2-Year fixed term.

I realize this - however, there are also better rates than Nationwide's available for fixed-rate bonds.

Thanks very much - I will look into the Chelsea option.
I probably wouldn't go for the RPI growth ones, since the situation with RPI is not 'fixed'.

hi
Do you think that the Bonds are a risk in that moment please?is it conected with the market?
I am asking about the Nationalwide Fixed rate Bonds(for a one year fix rate bond-net 5.20%) , or the Abbey Fixed Rate reward saver with the same interest.
Do you thing its a secure savings accound please? Which one is better to choose please?0 -
what about the aa savings account fixed at a year with 7.21% It is with Birmingham Midshares...
But Birmingham Midshares are with HBOS.
This leaves me confused - - -
I thought HBOS were soon to be no more as company now belongs to L TSB?
So will aa savings and Birmingham Midshares soon be no more too?
Or,
will they, aa, Birmingham Midshares and HBOS be the same accounts etc but called L TSB?
Or will they be the same acccounts, but be known as 'part of the L TSB organisation?
Very confused and relutant to use aa savings until I have a clear picture of what is going to happen ( well as clear as possible).
I have 11 grand available to me today to put away for up to a year :T0 -
Birmingham Midshires was itself taken over several years ago by Halifax/HBOS - has it ceased to exist (if only in name)?I thought HBOS were soon to be no more as company now belongs to L TSB?
So will aa savings and Birmingham Midshares soon be no more too?
I had a large amount of savings with BM at the time , they were totally unaffected by the takeover.0 -
Do you think interest rates will rise in the next few months above this 7.2%?0
