Im after a George Foreman grill. Ive been looking but there are so many on the market.
There are alot of offers out there at the moment and thought people who have one might give me some input in the pros and cons of the one they have.
Ive done a little research and it seams that the one with the removable plates take alot longer to heat up and cook though they are easier to clean.
Would be grateful for any advice from people out there who own one.
Im gearing towards this one..GEORGE FOREMAN 14087 Health Grill
£24.99 instead of £49.99 from dixon. I want it to be able to be used to make cheese on toast as well as grilling chicken and veggis etc.
Do they all do this?
Also if any one would like to add what they actually cook on theirs and what doesnt cook well that would be great.
Thanx in advance.

Yes I have got one. It has not got the removable plates. Some people like them some people say they take longer to warm up. But I can say cleaning one without removable plates can be a pain depending what you cook.
I usually do meat on mine. Any type apart from steak, cant get the time right its always over cooked. I like rare stake.
Flat mushrooms are great on there. The lid squashes them down, yummmmie.
I have also done chicken in bread crumb on it. Just need to brush it with oil to make sure all the breakcrumb cooks and its not too dry.
Bacon is good, It does not really get hot enough to get it crispy but you would not believe the stuff that comes out when you cook things.
the only veggie I have does has been the mushroom and red pepper.
A good little gadget but it does take up a fair amount of space.JeremyMarried 9th May 20090 -
I do cheese toasties on mine , stick the fat drip tray upside down under the front legs (otherwise the cheese all drips out) - heaven !
To clean I stick it back on for 1 min and it cleans a lot easier.Sealed pot challenge 822

I would not be without one. I love bacon done on it , have made pork , steak , sausages, toasted sandwhiches, burgers.............If you can afford it get one with the removable plates. I am on my third over the years and love the one I have now. Just take the plates off , wipe over the machine with kitchen roll and stick plates in dishwasher.
Cleaning the normal ones is the worst job ever lolTOTAL 44 weeks lose. 6st 9.5lb :T0 -
We have one with fixed plates and i can't say i've ever had much of a prob cleaning it. Like the previous poster said if you wipe it over while it's still warm it's fine. If it needs a better clean i squeeze a little soapy water just on the bottom plate and then turn it on to heat it up for a few mins-this tends to soften any stubborn burnt bits!
Sausages cook really well and you won't believe how much fat comes out! My OH likes his steak medium and i have just about got it sorted now! Get a thick piece of steak and heat up the georgie so it's nice and hot. 3 mins and then check-if it looks JUST under-done then take it off and let it rest under foil and it will be spot on after a couple of mins resting.
Kebabs (fruit or veg or meat) cook nicely as do toasties and you can heat pitta bread up on it too.
Have fun!0 -
I wouldn't be without my George Formby. The model with removeable plates will encourage you to use it more as although the fixed plate models can be cleaned, the removeable plates are a darn site easier.
I'm on my second !.....................I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

I have this one....
http://www.amazon.co.uk/George-Foreman-10099-Variable-Temperature/dp/B00008WFCW/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=kitchen&qid=1221423699&sr=8-3
though when I got mine it was the absolute bargain price of £20!
If you don't mind not being able to remove the plates for washing its an excellent grill. Its absolutely massive and has a variable temp control which I find great.
I find it easy to clean too...I just get a couple of sheets of wet kitchen towel and put them on the grill whilst still warm....close the lid and when you come to clean it properly all it needs is a wipe over with warm soapy water as the stubborn bits have lifted off and stuck to the kitchen towel.
I admit I have only ever used mine for sausages, steak and bacon so can't comment on toasties or veg when done on it.:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0 -

Mine (post #8) came with 2 drip trays which are dishwasher safe. Its amazing and gross at the same time how much fat comes out of the food!:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0
