Can anyone help me please

Hi all, i have just sat my exams in university, and i would like to know how to work out the results. Basically the modulr is split where u have coursework worth 40% and exam worth 60%. You need 40% overall to pass. How is this calculated?

Thanks

  • Do you know what you got in your coursework? Or what you got in your exam?

Just find out how well you did in the coursework (percent wise) and then scale that so it's out of 40%. So, say you got 70% for coursework, that means you've got 28% overall. Do the same with the exam and you'll know how well you've done. I think.
  • i got 55% in one coursework and 60% in another course work and ive blow the exam so..... but its a 40% PASS out of the 2 combined from what i can gather
  • Well going by that you've got 23% so far. So you'd need to get a third of the marks on the exam to have passed overall. That could be totally wrong. My maths is a little rusty.
  • "The One Who" - you are correct, 23% is what "lelilo1" has achieved in this unit so far, this is assuming each piece of coursework is worth 20%.

To calculate it you simply do: -

    (Result * Weighting) / 100

    So in your case: -

    Coursework 1: -

    (55 * 20) / 100 = 11

    Coursework 2: -

    (60 * 20) / 100 = 12

    = 23%

So to pass your unit the minimum you need to get in your exam is around 29-30% which is a definite fail, HOWEVER many universities demand that you must pass the exam component of a module to pass it, so in reality the minimum you need to get is on the borderline pass mark (40%), this would give you an overall mark of 47% for the unit including your coursework.

  • Thanks for your answer the one who and djhworld, much appreciated.

If im honest i have struggled this year due to a number of things including a hospital stay having pnewmonia, my partner coming out of work and i have 2 children. Its my first year so i only want to pass now that everythings sort of all over the shop. I am thinking of taking a gap year in a bid to compose myself.

I have passed everything else but had 2 exams put on mitigating circumstances as me brother had a serious road traffic accident, (i know, everythings so tragic). So the 2 and a half hour exam ended up being an hour. Me bro was having majour surgery to his spine the same day as i had the one exam. I didn't know what i was most nervous about my exam or his op.

Just wondering if i can cope with the rest of the degree, although i do know i get very down if my brain is not constantly taxed so to speak.

    thanks once again much appreciated
