Two questions:
Had the oil light come on and why do you think it was faulty?
Was the oil so low it didn't touch the bottom of the dipstick when you initially checked it and how much did you overfill it by?
At worst, you may be looking at a reconditioned engine. Worst case scenario is the conrod is bent. That can also bend the crankshaft as well as cause damage to the cylinder bore by the piston not sliding centrally and straight up and down the cylinder. The more you continue to drive it, the worse it'll get.0 -
thanks for that connor
my brother who is a car mechanic reckons its probably a bent con rod!
cant believe my luck
as i said in the previous post i did not check the dip-stick,
stupid i know and never done that before either...........
i believe the oil way full already and i overfilled it about 2 pints
do you have any idea how much it would cost to repair? as i cannot find this info anywhere?
cannot afford another car and dont want to go into a lease hire agreementEvery day is a school day :T:T:T0 -
It's a new engine time I think, bet you keep a better eye on the levels on the next one, at a wild guess how much, well if you go to peugeot probably 3-4 grand will cover a new engine and fitting, if you find a decent one in a scrappy it's probably gonna cost you £500 for the engine, theyre popular those wee engines, and maybe a few hundred to get it fitted, I wouldnt be surprised with a bill of close on a grand if you use a reputable guaranteed scrappy engine and a decent independent garage to fit it, best get the tissues out0

thanks ginger nuts
the car cost me £4500, just spent £500 on new breaks and tires and just paid for full years insurance upfront as the offer was really good.
to be honest if its £1k then i will have to pay it as i have that in my overdraft i was paying off, that will have to waitEvery day is a school day :T:T:T0 -
It'll be nowhere near £3-£4k for a reconditioned engine which will be as good a new as well as coming with a 12000 mile/12 month warranty.0

why do you think a bent conrod ?0
-
because when i broke down and had to drive it back, after having the oil drained off of course, it was like driving back a micra.............. you know gggggggggggggggggggggggggg gear change gggggggggggrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr gear change etc, top speed 60mph, downhill, feels like running on half an engine
why what do you thinkEvery day is a school day :T:T:T0 -
it could be a valve, or valves?...work permit granted!0

spider pig - goldspanners
i just dont know what to think,
my brother has been a car mechanic for 20 years, he reckons bent con rod at least, but i dont know whether;-
a) i dont want to believe car is mashed
or
b) my brother is a natural pesimist and will always write thing offEvery day is a school day :T:T:T0 -
