zone alarm?

i have zone alarm and avg, however when i try to update avg , it gets blocked aabaout half way thru.
i have tried to install the ip address as a trusted zone, however when i click on add a window comes up but the ip address will not be typed in , also the OK box is not highlighted, only the cancel box is.
any help/advice much appreciated.

If Zonealarm is blocking access for the updates, I would have thought that it would block access from the beginning of the update, not halfway through. Are you sure there is no problem with the AVG updates?

Some viruses are pretty good at disabling or crippling anti-virus software. Could be something deliberatly interfering with the antivirus update procedure.

I think that AVG allows you to download updates on a different computer, and install updates on anther computer 'offline' (not via internet). This might be an alternative route to updating your antivirus - and then immediately do a complete scan!

If it's AVG Free, the download often sticks halfway through - best thing to do is try a manual update a bit later on - usually does the trick

Perform following procedure:

run AVG Control Center

mark the Update Manager componnet -> Settings (button in the bottom of AVG Control Center or an item in context menu (right-click by the mouse)

if you are using a Proxy server, set appropriate values on the Proxy tab.

if you are using a dial-up, set it on the Dial-Up tab.

check also settings of the URL tab. (default settings is: http://update.grisoft.cz/softw/70/update)
