Hubby left his Job....Now what?

Hello,
Were not trying to get something for nothing.
Hubby left his job last week, he had enough, so many people have left recently and they haven't been replaced, he was mainly doing three peoples work, but enough was enough.
I have convined him to telephone the jobcentre tomorrow about making a claim, but a bit worried about what will happen. We have three small children, get child tax credits and working tax credits, I know the working tax credits will stop, but will the jobcentre give us anything to live on?
He has already applied for a few other jobs - including Christmas Temp work, just to give himself some time to get a good job, will the jobcentre take this into consideration?
Also will this also effect Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit?
Hope someone can help! Thanks in advance
Sarzzie

He left his job voluntarily so is most likely to be sanctioned for up to 26 weeks. You may have to claim Income Support but what income you get from tax credits will affect this.
It will affect HB and CTB but in your favour, i.e you'll get more.
Stick the figures into entitledto.com and it'll tell you what you should be able to get.0 -
If you leave your job of your own free will, or are dismissed for gross misconduct, you will be sanctioned when it comes to Jobseekers Allowance.
Only if you are made redundant (with maybe some other exceptions) would there be no problems.
No sympathy really....if you have three small children I would have looked for another job and stuck at it, however hard.
I would have put my kids before myself - clearly not what has happened here.0 -
yes, daveboy, that goes for me too.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
That's easier said than done. Sometimes the odds are so stacked against you that voluntarily giving up your job is about the only solution left in order to maintain your own sanity.
Your hubby will be sanctioned for Jobseeker's Allocance by the Job Centre, basically they won't give him any JSA at all unless he requests JSA Hardship payments (which themselves are either 20% or 40% less than the normal rate).
Financially you might be better off getting him signed off on the sick for a wee while & going down the Income Support/Incapacity Benefit route instead.0 -

Whilst I agree with everything else that you have written, I would add the words if he is incapable of work to the last paragraph.
Gone ... or have I?0 -
Of course ! If he is incapable of work ....

Just as well the OP wasn't asking for any sympathy then...what's the view like up there on your high horse? :rolleyes:0 -
Try the sickness benefit route. If the job was really stressing him out, then that may be valid, especially if a G.P. can substantiate it. Good luck.I shot a vein in my neck and coughed up a Quaalude.
