Hi there, My 6 year old son has just been awarded High Care rate of DLA for the next 5 years and I was wondering what other benefits etc he may be entitiled to?
I am a single mum working 25hrs per week @ £5.80p/h - get no HB or CTC but get Working & Child Tax Credits.
A friend recently told me that my son was entitled to a bus pass for him plus one and it got me thinking, is there anything else he might be entitled to?
Many thanks

CTC is Child Tax Credits, did you mean council tax benefits?
You will now get an extra rate of Tax Credits so give them a ring.
You earn too much for Carers Allowance, but you're better off working as it's a very minimal benefit unfortunately.
Not sure about bus passes unless your child gets the mobility allowance. No longer using this account for new posts from 20130 -
You can also get a cinema card so that 1 nominated carer gets in free with him. Lots of theme parks also give the carer free entry, check before visiting on their website.
By the way, although it says 5 years, they can ask for you to reapply anytime. The first time around my son was awarded for 3 years-after 10 months we were asked to reapply. I reapplied in July this year, and was awarded again for 3years. Your son's application may be very straightforward,as my son is autistic I keep a diary to help me fill in the form and will continue to do so,as I would find it very difficult to fill the form without it.Just warning you that there is no guarantee you will keep the allowance for 5 years-I knew someone at a support group who reorganised her finances around the extra CTC and the DLA,and she was in a terrible mess when they asked her to reapply after a year and then refused the DLA (she is currently appealing but has been without the extra benefit now for 5 months.)Tomorrow is always fresh, with no mistakes in it!0
