My housemate was talked into getting a new look store card. Problem is, what they have done is send her a statement, dated august 11th but actually recieved September the 11th by second class post, telling her she needs to pay it off by September 5th. is this even legal???

This happens with my New Look card. The statement is dated about 2/3 weeks before I actually receive it, normally only giving me a few days to pay it.
When I opened the account they also told me I would get 0% on purchases for 3 months however they started charging me interest straight away :mad:0 -
That sounds as though they have breached their own Terms and Conditions. Did you challenge them on this ?
No, I didn't have any proof. The girl in the shop told me I would get 3 months interest free and as I hadn't seen the offer before I double checked with her to make sure it was right.
It doesn't really affect me as I pay each month, but the first month I was caught out and had to pay interest.0 -

Any interest free period should be set out in writing in the Terms and Conditions. Very naughty of them if they didn't honour it.0 -

Not all staff know their stuff, you'd be best calling customer services to double check things if you're not sure. The staff will think it's 3 months interest free, but they may have rounded it up from 56 days, plus you have to pay 5 days before the due date so it's often a little less than that.0
