Firstly please let me apologise for being a computer novice and forgive anything daft I might say!!
About a week ago used computer with no problems. (Windows XP on dial up with AVG running{I know! DH is getting around to swapping to broadband})
Later in the day, when we switched on, all that came up was wallpaper, but no icons, and the dial up connection box.
If you click cancel on the dial up box all the icons return and then computer seems to be fine.
(This may be a coincidence, previous day received an email with attachment of Trojan. AVG quaranteed this and it was then deleted.)
I'm worried though and wondered if this is serious or sinister.
Any thoughts and ideas would be most grateful (providing they are in idiot speak).:rotfl:
Many thanks

First up
You really SHOULD get off dial up, if a DIAL UP nasty gets on your computer your modem can be used to dial out by itself! This happened to my grandfather and he ended up with a 600 quid bill off BT!! That cant happen on broadband (Aside from the whole extra speed ijections etc)
To be honest you may as well just see how it goes as if your computers working then all 'seems' fine
I assume your on avg 8? (Its just some people are still on 7.5)
Update it and run a FULL scan
I would also recommend (Particulary as your on dial up) installing SPYBOT, update and IMMUNISE then run a scan with it ~

Away for a few days and the DH promises he is going to arrange Broadband.
Anyway aliEnRIK thanks for your help, much appreciated!0
