I'd also reccommend a private instructor. After getting lessons with a big company I found the instructor very slow (spent 5 hours turning left in 1st gear), a little pervy and consistantly late, meaning I wasn't getting my full hour. I'm now with a lovely private instructor who doesn't waste my time, usually gives me more than my hour, is cheaper and doesn't lose his temper with me when I get confused. Private instructors rely on word of mouth for most of their business so generally they are good :)
