laptop going to white screen any ideas?

hi there techi people. I have a laptop and while i'm using it it will suddenly go to a blank white screen. I have no idea why and need to fix it as it is driving me crazy. The only way i can get rid of it is to turn it off and on again and start it all over, or to wait about 10 mins for it to go to screen saver then touch the mouse and see if it goes back to normal screen but this does not always work.

Does anyone know how i can fix this and stop it happening?
Please reply in basic speak as i'm not a techi person myself and don't understand a lot of the termiology.

Are you on XP or VISTA?
Is it whilst your using anything in PARTICULAR or it literally just pops up whenever it wants?
If you press CONTROL ALT and DELETE does the TASK MANAGER come up? (Or able to switch to task manager if your on Vista?)

Change the time the screensaver kicks in to a shorter time 1min?

right click on desktop select properties, Third tab in, change the wait to 1min. apply.

As for the white issue, I too have never heard of that. What machine is it?

It's an acer laptop, i'll change the screensaver time, and try control alt del and let you know how i get on, it's just strange, never had it happen on any other laptop or comp
