FTB!Anyone recommend solicitor 4 house purchase?

Hi all

Can anyone recommend a good solicitors firm in the Notts/Mansfield area? I am looking to put an offer in on a house for 110k but would like to have a solicitor sorted before I go ahead and put in an offer. We have a 10% deposit and have a mortgage agreement in principle. I am planning to ring around the estate agents in the area I live and see who they recommend.

I have had a look online and frankly I'm baffled by the different array of quotes. What is a rough figure I should be looking at? Does anyone have any experience of using a good online conyeyancing solcitor? Any advice much appreciated.

Thanks in anticipation

Have you tried reallymoving.com. These were the cheapest. I am paying £350 + vat, they are local to the property and when I spoke to them they were on the ball.

Unless you have a good report on one then you are better getting a local one so you can go in and rattle their cage if you need to!

Try www.compareconveyancers.co.uk, they give local solicititors service but at online prices.
  • Just make sure you read ALL the small print and terms and conditions to check for extras that you might not have been expecting. Some of these are in effect standard on virtually all transactions and would more honestly be included in the basic fee, but are separated out to make the basic fee look lower.

As a retired conveyancing solicitor I believe the information given in the post to be useful assuming any properties concerned are in England/Wales but I accept no liability for it.

Ideally you should find a solicitor who will not charge you (except for searches, etc) if the sale does not go through for any reason. Our mortgage advisor found one for us through econveyancer, and told us this was one of the most important things to look for (plus the customer satisfaction rating). The solicitors were not local to us but I found the service very good and was very satisfied with their pre-purchase report which (in addition to a homebuyers survey) highlighted issues that led to us deciding to pull out of the purchase.

I agree, make sure that what ever solicitor you end up with, online or high street, no sale, no fee is vital in today's economy!
  • Try www.fidler.co.uk where you can get instant quote and they are local to you in Mansfield. They also offer a No move, No fee and you can do everything online. Good Luck with the move.
  • Try https://www.compareconveyancing.com for a list of solicitors throughout the country and their esimate of price.also contacins a bit about their service to help you distinguish between them.
