Let someone else recycle your junk mail for free

Chickenboy, I agree but actually, in my area, the council fines households who do not recycle; I used to be the only one in my household to do it but now we all do so not only is it helping the environment whereas the supermarkets would probably just bin it, but it stops us getting fined.0

Just a point for those registering with the Mailing Preference Service - keep an eye on your mail as you may stop getting things that you actually want to receive. I used to be registered with them but it meant I didn't receive my statements and extra money-off vouchers from Boots Advantage Card or Nectar, amongst others, so I had to cancel my MPS registration.
I've been sending junk mail back for years if I get reply-paid envelopes, usually with a little note attached saying "you sent me your junk, now I'm sending you mine". But please remember that the majority of the time it will be a secretary or office worker or post room worker that opens the post that you send back, so nothing nasty should be enclosed!0 -
A short while ago there was a campaign in my area to stop the junk mail being delivered.
The best possible way of tackling this is to send back all of your mail as it costs the companies 3-4 pence to process...
If everyone does the same the costs of this wont be viable for them to do...
Its a great way of fighting back!0 -
You people are being quite kind just sending the junk mail back.
When I previously worked for a finance company our pre paid envelopes were more often than not stuffed with junk mail but the ones that really made us laugh were the ones containing "surprise gifts" such as cigarette ash, pornographic material, post it notes with obscene messages to name but a few.
The most offensive offering though was the poo, the poor girl who opened it certainly wasnt laughing (infact she was so traumatised she was sent home from work).
It isn't that we are kind, it's that other people are mean and vindictive. It's often some poor work experience kid opening mail or an office junior; not their problem their bosses are sending junk mail...I don't know why anyone would target them by sending anything revolting. Breeze blocks is a hilarious idea for a certain company who keeps sending me cruise brochures despite me asking them not to. I'll reserve the poo for any known BNP activists.;)0 -

As to the takeaway menus you get I save them all up until there is a good pile and then on my way into town I pick on one of the takeaways and shove the whole lot through their letter box.
On a more serious note I have contacted my local council to see if they could do anything about the amount of menus that get posted through my door and they said they had no pwers. Seems a bit ridiculous to me as I receive at least one menu per day.
I live near to u in Leigh,.I`ve never had so many menu`s through my door anywhere else I`ve lived.I get loads of the blighters, its ridiculous:eek::A :shocked: :A0 -
