Insane Clamping Charges

Comments

  • There sample contracts are interesting as they basically offer the services for free and take all the penalties in return for the "service" they offer

I wonder how many companies/residents etc get taken in by them then stuck with them.
  • You should go to Pepipoo.com and ask there.

Personally, I would have removed the clamp myself. Let them take me to court, it would give me more satisfaction.

It appears that Anglegrinderman no longer operates....at least I can't find his website any more. :(

"If you have been wheel-clamped and need to contact me urgently, then call the Angle-Grinder phone hotline direct, on : 07984121043."

No idea if the phone number still works...

Or you could try the chav method.... http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=u4oegQe_v_U&feature=related

Seriously though, you'll get the best advice from Pepipoo. ;)
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

Sorry to hear this, happened to me in McDonalds India, I mean Southall by a company called parking control services. I got charged £229! £50 for an abuse fee included in that!

I have wrote to mcDonalds, they have passed my letter to their franchisee and ive still received bo reply.

I will be taking them to the small claims court, court fees are waived if youre on a low income. however even if i win my case theres no guarantee ill get my money back but as i wont be paying court fees ill give it a go.

You could try the local papers for highlighting your claim. ie Hillingdon or Ealing Times These articles might be of interest to you.

They say they are charging this much because the car was there for 4 hours. I understand that it was a mistake on my part but £405 is insane

I have no sympathy for you on this one. It annoys me when I want to legitimately park somewhere and can't get a parking space.

If you'd stopped there for 10 minutes to get some money out of the bank, then perhaps yes, but 4 hours, that isn't a mistake, you deliberately thought you could have free parking for half a day. What do you think would happen if everybody else (well not even everybody, about 20 other inconsiderate individuals) decided to do what you did? Yes, there wouldn't be any space for people to park who wanted to eat.

They did have car parks in Southall last time I was there and if you're going to be there for 4 hours then you should use them.
  • I'm appalled at this story - £405 is completely insane. To be honest I would have taken an angle grinder to it and offer to replace the clamp (or make good the damage before it got to court.

I dont have much sympathy for a racist who was taking the !!!! in all honesty
  • Here's something that just occurred to me.... if you're vehicle is a company vehicle, and is being used for works purposes, and your company has elected to do business under Scottish Law (as any UK company can..) doe sthe fact that clamping is illegal under Scottish Law apply even though you've parked in England??

Rubbish - It's daylight robbery and you know it. To have to pay £405 for parking your car for 4 hours is a nonsense and absolutely out of proportion to the wrongful act.

If local councils across the country weren't quite so double-yellow line obsessed then there would be ample parking on the streets and people wouldn't need to park in McDonalds.

If you want Scottish laws, stay in Scotland.
