Car Parking Fine - Help!!

in Motoring
Hey peeps,
Wan't sure where to put this thread, but "Motoring" seemed as good a place as any!
Anyway, last night my neighbour AND my husband AND myself all received parking tickets!
I'm wondering if I can appeal - is it worth a go?
The PCN says we were parked in a taxi rank, but the signs contradict the road markings. The signs are yellow with the "No waiting 8am-6am Except for taxis" but the markings on the road have the white indivisual parking spaces on them. There are no "TAXIS" painted on the road.
I parked mine round the corner from the other two, and it had the same signage, but next the the pavement on the road was a thick yellow lone (like doubles that had been filled in). What does this mean?
Also, when I parked there, I thought the sign said "No waiting 8am-6pm" (not 6am). It was a genuine mistake.
I don't have a problem persevering with an appeal providing I have grounds for it, nor do I mind grovelling!
I just could really do with not having to pay £70 (2 cars at £35 each).
Thanks for your help!

Hi, Sorry to hear this.
Tell them or write to them, That you intend to take it Further, And you are taking legal advice from your Solicitor.
Then they may think......???
You can try it, As they might not have the time or the money etc to take it to a small claims court?
When you mention the word 'Soloicitor' most people back off and think twice.
I think you should at least try and dispute it, What have you got to lose??
Best of Luck.Thomson 757 Man0 -
I think you'll find that is the marking for a bus-stop.spendingspree wrote: »<snip>

Was there also a pole type thingy with a sign on it which said 'bus stop'?
From the Highway Code:
243
DO NOT stop or park- near a school entrance
- anywhere you would prevent access for Emergency Services
- at or near a bus or tram stop or taxi rank
- on the approach to a level crossing/tramway crossing
- opposite or within 10 metres (32 feet) of a junction, except in an authorised parking space
- near the brow of a hill or hump bridge
- opposite a traffic island or (if this would cause an obstruction) another parked vehicle
- where you would force other traffic to enter a tram lane
- where the kerb has been lowered to help wheelchair users and powered mobility vehicles
- in front of an entrance to a property
- on a bend
- where you would obstruct cyclists’ use of cycle facilities except when forced to do so by stationary traffic

Check out page 60 in the Traffic Signs and Markings Manual for taxi ranks markings etc.
http://www.dft.gov.uk/pgr/roads/tss/trafficsigns.pdf0 -
Looking at the TS manual kindly linked to above, you will see that the broad yellow lne is to say "no stopping" at times indicated, so for this bay the yellow sign should say "no stopping" not "no waiting" If it says "no waiting" you have a case. If as you imply the white bays are segregated into seperate white parking bays then you have a case. - though it may depend on what exact signs are present.spendingspree wrote: »The PCN says we were parked in a taxi rank, but the signs contradict the road markings. When you come back I suggest you describe exactly what all signs say and what markings are on the roads. Photographs would be much better.
Not a valid excuse. Also, when I parked there, I thought the sign said "No waiting 8am-6pm" (not 6am). It was a genuine mistake.0 -

I dont know why people quote the highway code - its not a legal document and everything in it does not have a law from which its based upon. Sure, people should follow it, but its not the law just a guide on how to operate your vehicle.matched betting: £879.63

If you feel you were hard done by - its worth appealling. The fine will be frozen until your appeal is after. If they fail to reply to your appeal (like they did to me) then there's the chance that they'll eventually drop it anyway (as they did with me, so worth a go even if you have little legal standing).matched betting: £879.63
