laptop sound gone!

not sure whats happened, but my itunes opens with the message Itunes has detected a problem with your audio configuration.
The tunes will 'play' but no sound comes out. ive reinstalled, but no joy.
Tried playing them through other programs, like VLC but still nothing.

Whats happened!!?

could be a number of things and a very vauge description

What machine is it your using and what are the specifications?

Have you checked in device manager that the hardware is working as intended?

Did you reinstall the sounddrivers or Itunes?

Have you just added new software or hardware or a peripheral to your machine that could have caused the problem?

Windows XP Home
Checked Device manager and all is running OK
Reinstalled Itunes, should i reinstall sound drivers? not sure i have the cd for that
Added Truecrypt, but have uninstalled now in attempting to fix

try plugging in some headphones, does the sound work from using the headphones in the headphone socket?

fourth post down gives a good explanation that the drivers are tempremental and need to be extracted and then ran ect. Check it out, it may be the solution to your problem (it also has links to the drivers ect).
