Best chicken pakora we have bought from a shop(not takeaway) was strangely from the chinese supermarket in Dobbies Loan. I have also seen it in the big chinese supermarket at the point not tried this one but looks the same. We just heated it in oven & it was very tasty.0

The chicken pakora I got from Aldi and the stuff I get sometimes from the chip shop is bright red in colour and I was thinking about making my own but all the pakora pictures I have seen on tinternet has it as a light brown colour not in the least bit red! Are Aldi and the chippy selling stuff as chicken pakora that is actually something else, maybe tandoori? It is definitely called chicken pakora on the box from Aldi and the chippy lists it as chicken pakora. The thing is I tried the pakora from Morrisons which was the brown battered stuff and although it was quite good I prefer the spicier red stuff which is slightly nippy but not too hot. Help!
Edit... or are they selling tikka as pakora maybe?0 -

The KRK near Glasgow Uni has frozen ones - I've never had them, but the rest of the stuff in the shop is amazing - the fresh Chicken is cheap, doesn't shrink in the way supermarket chicken does, and one breast is enough to feed a family of 4 for a week*. You can get half a kilo of Cumin and other spices for about a quid, which is fantastic.

And while you're there, go to the takeaway (Koh-i-noors I think) on Gibson street 30 seconds away which does the best pakora in Glasgow!
*Slight exaggeration, but they are huge.Craftster.com is eating all my free time!0 -
The chicken pakora currently sold in McLeish stores is excellent. Good sized chunks of quality meat & nicely coated & spiced.
Nae cheap though, think it was @£3.50-3.80 for a tray of 6 bits. Sauce extra but I think they sell that elsewhere in the chill cabinet or on the deli counter.0 -
didnt there used to be a recipie section on this site?0

2 cups garam flour
1 cup plain flour
Salt
Teaspoon baking powder
Desert spoon greek yoghurt
half to one teaspoon red chili powder, depending how hot you like it
Teaspoon tumeric
Water
Diced chicken - a couple of fillets or half a dozen thighs
Mix all ingredients except chicken to a thick consistency.
Add finely diced chicken
Take a teaspoonful of mixture
Fry in hot oil for 3-4 minutes
Use onions or mushrooms for veggie pakora.
Much better than any you can buy.0 -

There'd be trades descriptions issues there if they were. I would imagine it's more a case of Pakora being a generic type of food with the flavourings/spices being variable. A bit like saying chicken curry without saying what kind of curry it is.0 -
Yeah so there would. I've discovered they sell both chicken pakora and chicken tikka pakora in the Asda chilled section. Neither of them look anything like the stuff in the chippy so my guess is the chippies that I frequent have the same supplier and their pakora is made with more red colouring than most whether that be paprika or chilli powder or food colouring0
