card fraud & alternative delivery address

one annoying thing about card fraud is that alot of companies allow purchases to be sent to alternative addresses which makes it easy for the fraudsters to use your cards! they dont have to camp outside your home and intercept delivery.quite a loop crater in card fraud...i dont want to buy anything and have it posted anywhere else but my home! so will have to see if my bank can have this as a clause on my new card. it may help

As you've said yourself, it's the companies that decide what address they post something to. So how can a bank set a clause for something they have absolutely no control over whatsoever?

You'd be surprised at how many people get annoyed when a company won't post to an address other than the one the card is registered to. It's easier for companies to take the small chance of fraud occuring rather than miss out on all those potential sales, or have to deal with disgruntled customers because of restricted postage policies.

The problem is to make internet deliveries economical they are delivered by couriers who cannot give an exact date or time of delivery, and only deliver Monday to Friday during office hours.

As a lot of people work this means companies lose out on having customers if they only deliver to the credit card address.

In addition couriers do not always ring the bell of your house even if you are in. I live in a block of flats and quite often instead of ringing the bell of the person who is in, the courier decides to ring someone else's bell to get them to sign for the delivery.

Some companies will only delivery the first delivery to the credit card holders address while others will only deliver to an alternative address if it's a business address.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

  • Having a neighbour take in a parcel and having some fraudster ordering goods maybe halfway up the country or further! is a bit different. I'm really saying that personally i would prefer to have the restriction on my own card! I'm quite happy to have deliveries to my own address and none other, surely it cant be difficult for the bank to set up?...the fraudster who used my card details went to sites that bent over backwards to deliver to any address required without any suspicion whatsoever, even halfway upthe country!

Its not the bank decision as to where they item is delivered; its the policy of the company that you buy the said item from.

AVS - Address Verification System - is used for this purpose. The company will use technology that allows it to check that the billing address is correct and this is sent with the authorisation for payment. If its used and dont match, the authorisation is declined.
