Marching out and being charged!?

Hi there. I heard a couple of months back that if you have anthing that is slightly damaged,to either exchange it or just call the people up to come and take it away and then it gets you out of being charged. Is this true and does it really work? We are being posted at the end of october and are deffinetly going to get charged for our sofas/chairs and the bloody cats have used them as a scratching post. I was just looking for some advise really.. and some advise on march outs.. this will be our second one but we had everything done for us when leaving cyprus, is this the best option or is it easier to do it yourselfs? Thanks in advance kate x

Hi Kate, I remember Blandford well.
As soon as you know of your posting inform DHE do they still hve an office on the camp or do you have a central number to phone, anyway you should get a pre-marchout booked this is for you and DHE to go around the qtr let them know of any damages/repairs that need to be undertaken before they can allocate your quarter to someone else.
Cleaning your qtr for marchout is sometimes down to the individual DHE representative on the day some have differing standards.
Take a look at this http://www.defence-estates.mod.uk/sfa/formsPublications/GLSFA%20A-E.pdf#page=57 scroll down to page 58.
If the personalites are the same as 2yrs ago you could try the HIVE or AFF on camp, they did also have a prepayment cleaning scheme a couple of years ago also but may be expensive depending on qtr size.
The general rule of thumb in cleaning is hoover/wash all carpets, makes sure walls are free marks, windows clean inside/out, kitchen clean, cooker grease food free, bathroom and cloakroom clean disinfected etc. Outside areas clean and tidy sweep out your shed, the garden is seasonal cut grass, flower beds weeded etc. Just imagine you are selling your home first impressions and kerb appeal work.
There are probably more things to add to the list and some more indepth but hope this helps so far.
Good luck and don't worryMortgage

Hiya thanks for the info and the link will take a look at that in a minute.
Am not looking forward to this march out as we have 1 month to get thigs up to scratch and still havnt had our posting order confirmed! Nightmare-the Army did it to us last time aswell they gave us 2 weeks to get packed to leave cyprus also a huge nightmare! Anyway thankyou for the link-you have indeed been very helpful. Thanks x0 -
Best be4t would be to ask around the patch. Different personalities tend to pick up on different things and word spreads. There's a million and one tricks out there. People just don't talk and share anymore.
Best of luck !!0 -
From the insider point of view. Any defects to the property are not down to you or chargeable (broken door hinges, defective kitchen units, dripping taps etc)
EXCEPT - Walls - if you have redecorated this needs to be back to magnolia, the housing office will have the paint code. Wait until the pre march out, as the housing officer may say it is due it's cyclical redec anyway and waive the preparation to any walls! If at this PMO, you should remove picture hooks in non standard locations (4 per wall are acceptable but areas vary), fill and smooth holes.
Furniture is an ASA matter, and may be chargeable, depending on the age of the units.
As you have cats there is a need to steam clean the carpets.
As a guide, dont cut yourself short of time, A cooker should take 4-5 hours, the sink area 1 hour (descale incl. the drainer, clean plug hole and plug and buff the sink). If you have a cooker filter, a new filter is required, and the housing, once the filter location is dropped, needs to be grease free.
In your situation I would consider a firm guarenteeing to meet MO standard. Also check your contents insurance as I know that sometimes this is covered.Praying at the church of MSE should be compulsory!

two trains of thought, unless your other half waived the ninety days notice to move his MCM Div should give you a minimum of 90 days notice to move, also you will get disturbance allowance, of nearly £1000 + extra for Children (school age and above)
why don't you use this to pay a cleaner for march out, it saves a whole lot of heart ache.0
