complications now starting work?

hi all,
i went br on the 8 august. i was and had been for some time on income support due to illness. i start a new job on monday.
or seemed keen for all my br to be simple due to being on benefits and whilst it's early days yet i was hoping/expecting early discharge.
but now i'm returning to work, only 30 hours and will earn under 15000, get some top up housing benefit too probably.
i understand from reading posts here that an ipa is only made if you have over 100 disposable income?
My worry is that my initial soa was basic to say the least as i was on benefits, income now although low will show a disposable income of over 100 if compared to inital soa whilst on benefits (70 per week income). but ican't live on 70 per week, no way, doesn't even pay the bills. but if i say that to the or he will say well i was before...
sorry thats a bit garbled
thanks if you can make sense of it and share some thoughts,:T

You will have to fill in a new i&e so get the chance to add the expenses that a new job will bring like travel costs, work wear, lunches ect so may not be liable for an IPA after that still.D

  • thank you dalip.
but i'm worried that my new expenditure will be radically different from my old one.
and wot about dogs? one of mine has a condition which requires medication costing about fifty quid a month. on income support use pdsa at low cost but now need money for the meds and put some aside for vet bills, maybe i should start a new thread on this...

Did you put down pet insurance on your I&E?. If not include it and explain it and cross your fingers your OR is a animal lover. Why not put your old i&e up wth your new income and lets us have a look and see what the OR would regard as reasonable increases due to employment. If have 21 days to notify them anyway so no real rush.(wink)D

Just had another thought if you are in receipt of either h/b or ct/b you can get PDSA so may still be entitled to that.D

  • thanks dalip, but for pdsa (in my town anyway) you have to be recieving FULL housing and council tax benefit, i'll only be getting a little bit.. : (
but the dog dies without the meds - they can't say no surely???????????
  • yes, was gonna do some housework but will try to rustle up old and new i and e's, back in a bit... ta
  • Yor I&E will go up, you'll need to buget for transport, clothing, meals, extra rent, council tax, perscriptions and such so the amount going out will possibly double if not more.

When are you actually starting work? You do not have to tell the OR until day 21 that you have returned to work, then they will send you an IPOQ and you have couple of weeks to return that in - so nothing is going to happen overnight.

Post the SOA that you had whilst on IS, and put down your rent, council tax and income - plus let us know how you will be getting to work and back. We can sort something out for you! Worse case scenario is that you have to pay a small IPA.

Circumstances change, so an IPA is flexible.
  • okay, on my official form at time of br:
    rent: 565.00
    food: 200
    gas/elec: 80.00
    water:25.00
    phone: 40.00
    clothing: 10.00
    tv and contents insurance: 28.00
    TOTAL OUT: 948.00
TOTAL IN: 943.00 (HOUSING BENEFIT AND INCOME SUPPORT ONLY)

    new income will be:
wages, 913.00(after tax etc), return to work credit(one year only) 173.00, housing benefit(estimate) 173.00.
    TOTAL NEW INCOME: 1259.00

that leaves an additional 317 per month to account for....
travel will be 50.00, dog meds 50.00, council tax about 40.00

but i'm not sure if the benefits will be taken into account?
