Whilst they might well be able to charge differently to BT,did VM given any notice at all? If not, then they are in breach of contract.
Complain to them,

If you remain dissatisfied you can ask to escalate the issue to a manager. As it may be necessary for the manager to call you back, provide them contact numbers.Manchester M22 0EY
Or you can write to:
Customer Loyalty Manager
Customer Concern
Concord House
Concord Business Park
Threapwood Road
Wythenshawe
and if you still dont get anywhere get Cisas to take it up.

My employer blocks calls to 08442 numbers totally across every site! Apparently they are too expensive to allow, even though 087 & 0845 number are allowed. Not sure how they worked that out! These are my thoughts and no one else's, so like any public forum advice - check it out before entering into contracts or spending your hard earned cash!
I don't know everything, however I do try to point people in the right direction but at the end of the day you can only ever help yourself!0 -
They have done exactly the same thing to me on an series of 0844200 calls i made. I spent 2 hours on the phone to the Glasgow call centre on Friday night trying to explain and they just couldn't quite grab the concept that they had overcharged me at a random 8.7p per minute. In the end she said 'well what do you want me to do about it?'. 'There's nothing i can do'.
Finally i got to speak to a manager who after 25 minutes of telling me 0845 numbers are charged differently finally clicked that i was actually talking about 0844200 numbers which according to their new literature are PG22 and should be 7p connection and 1p pre minute. (Despite the fact that they used to be and should still be 0.5p per minute). She said she would look in to it and that i have to call them back in 5 working days time to find out if they have bothered to do anything! i will no doubt spend a further 2 hours trying to explain it all again.
It is frightening how useless and poorly trained the call centre staff are and even more worrying how unwilling to listen or help the managers are. There was no warning they were putting up prices up. Surely they aren't allowed to stick prices up without telling you until you receive a huge bill. i had a similar argument with them when they put up the monthly charges in the summer as they never sent me a letter. All hey could say was 'you must have'. Useless.0 -
Does anybody know what they are like if your were to lodge a complaint to them because i find that sometimes lodging a complaint is a complete waste of time! So really just wondering if they would actually read/listen to your complaint and do something about it?0

Any comments (or alternatives), anyone?Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0
