Incapacity Benefit Stopped

  • Further to the above post. I know exactly what you mean, but there is something satisfying about getting what you are entitled to, even if it takes ages and is loads of hassle. My opinion is, its even more stressful to live on next to nothing than go through the procedures with them.
Now i have won my entitlements they've tended to leave me alone for a couple of years at least, and when DLA renewal comes around next summer i'll know exactly what i need to do to be approved.
When my IB was stopped my life was a living hell and living on nothing made it even worse, but i got there in the end. There is help out there if you ask, which lightens the load and takes a bit of the stress away.
If you can please persist,as it will be worth it if you get what you're entitled to.

Hello I'm new, first post lah lah lah.

hjb123 please be aware that you can take someone with you on appeal. I am not sure where you are but in the grim north, we have a number of organisations that will supply people to represent you for free. Best to start with your local CAB but also check out trade union places who usually know where to look. These people know the system and can tie these so called experts in knots. Do not under any circumstances go alone unless you have no choice a or are particularly articulate and know the law which I doubt?

BTW I object most strongly to posters referring to the people who do these "medicals" (Inquisition more like) as doctors. I very much doubt if any of them ever took the hippocratic oath and if they did they should be totally ashamed.

Mr T, I too have the misfortune to live in the grim up north - in lancashire. I have contacted welfare rights and they have been very helpful, I am just waiting to see my doctor on Friday and see what he says before all steam ahead!

I'm sure you are aware that the DWP are currently trialing a system whereby Nurses and other medically qualified personelle other than doctors can perform these assessments with the aid of a computer assisted software programme that will enable them to produce the type of assessments the DWP wants.

    Increased medical resource
With the approval of Corporate Medical Group, Atos Origin will pilot the use of suitably qualified and trained healthcare professionals (HCPs). The pilot will begin early in 2006, and planning is already underway. Initially, HCPs will come from Atos Origin’s Occupational Health business.
Customers will see no difference in service as each HCP or doctor will be qualified for the job, follow EBM protocols and be supported by the LiMA programme.

register for free, then you can read the benefits section related to IB , medicals etc... as well as get insider info on scheme roll-outs, new working practices etc... and of course confirmation of your beliefs regarding those medical 'examiners'.

I went through the same thing and appealed TWICE, and TWICE got my decision overturned.

It is stupid that the amount of effort required to WIN an appeal is more than your average person in a fit healthy state would contemplate undertaking. How anyone in My ( your? ) state manages is nothing short of a miracle. It still disturbs me that we are required to undergo this huge emotional rollercoaster ride, in order to claim. Maybe thats the point? Many people just pull the covers over their heads and weep, thus saving the state a HUGE amount each year so that they can blow it on overpriced infrastructure elsewhere ( most cost lining the contractors pockets )

I'm wandering off again........ hmmm I do that alot..

anyways.... get yourself over to the specialized benefits forums on yourable ( not! )..... http://www.youreable.com/

MANY MANY forum regulars are insiders, CAB personel etc.

    hope this helps. ;)

  • To add to all the previous useful comments may i suggest also asking your own doctor
to recommend another doctor where you can get unbiased opinion on your state of health.Your own GP opinions rarely make any impression with the DWP as they think your own doctor's opinion is flawwed due to the personal relationship between doctor and patient. Also make sure you ask for the DWP doctor to put his/her opinions in writing they think you are fit for work.
Have you ever noticed that a large percentage of DWP doctors are of ethnic background, who tend to have a different idea of working practices to most western concepts.(ie indian ladies have a baby and carry on working) very convenient to the DWP and not by accident i suggest.
    REMEMBER get everything in writing.

    Hi,

I have an appointment with my Welfare Rights Officer tomorrow but wasnt sure whether any of you guys knew whether I might be able to postpone my appeal tribunal which is currently scheduled for 7th February?

I had blood tests last week which showed up a possible abnormality and I have to have more blood tests to confirm/disregard this theory in 3 weeks (which takes to after tribunal). I also had an MRI scan today and dont get the results for a few weeks - this also takes me to after the tribunal date!

Do you reckon I may be able to postpone?

    Thanks!
