19" Digimate L-1918 TFT with DVI comes in at £162 INC VAT at Aria.
It's excellent for the price.....although the quality of the display might depend on what kind of graphic spec. you have built into the laptop. If it's weak you might want to go for a sharper more expensive monitor.0 -

Thanks for your thoughts.
It is quite an old laptop if you could help direct me to a monitor that may make up for a weak graphic spec it would be appreciated.

I disagree, a "sharper more expensive monitor" would not perform any better with his laptop!
Most 19" monitors have exactly the same native resolution (1280 x 1024) as 17" monitors unless you pay a lot more money to get a higher resolution, so do you really want a 19" monitor.
Your laptop hasn't got DVI output, so that is irrelevant for your needs. :rotfl:
I think that you would be happy with most of the TFT screens available today. If you want to play games, the limiting factor is the graphics capability in your laptop.

Thanks for your reply. I am a little confused, would my laptop have the appropriate slot to attach a monitor such has been described here?0

i only recommend samsung and iiyama brands. The best prices for these are likely to be at https://www.ebuyer.com but check komplett.co.uk and aria.co.uk too.
The bonus of these brands is that they tend to do a 3 year next day swap out warranty. Any problem and a courier will replace your screen following day.

All laptops/notebooks that I have seen, have a connector to allow an external display to be used. There is usally a function key on the keyboard to select between the internal or external display.
The conector is usually a 15 pin Sub-D connector (two rows of gold pins in a D shaped housing) at both the laptop and the monitor. If you havn't got the manual, download it off the net to confirm this.
I would say that the TFT that you have found at Aldi would be ideal for you. Aldi have a one year replace or return policy and it is also covered by a 3 year manufacturers warranty.
One final thing, if you do decide to get one from Aldi, get there when they open, because they will sell out fast!

 Well spotted dc. :A
It is definitely 15 pins, in a sub D sized shell i.e. the same size as the standard 9 pin D type connector.
The user manual should clarify this connector.
