Lazydaisy - do you mind me asking how long ago you had yours removed?
A few months ago my GP told me that this is not something they can do as "minor surgery" at the health centre & they do not do it on the NHS any more.

Hi Penny, I had mine done five years ago, so things might have changed. But it certainly isn't something you would have done at a health centre. Mine was done by a plastic surgeon on NHS, but I was being treated for depression at the time and my GP referred me on mental health grounds as the lump was very large and prominent and was affecting my confidence and self esteem (I was only in my 40's so that may also have made a difference). It is also possible that this sort of thing varies from area to area.

Though I have to say that before I had it done I had no idea what a huge difference it would make to me. Friends and family kept asking me if I'd lost weight or had my hair done - my sister even asked me if I'd had my eyebrows plucked! They couldn't put their finger on what had changed, but everyone kept telling me how well I looked! Looking back, if I was in the same position again, I would find the money and go private if I had to. But that's just me.

Having said that, I suppose it does depend on why the deposits are there. Mine came after a spell of intensive TPN following surgery, which was a 'one-off', if it is diet related maybe they would want to get the cholesterol under control first?

    many thanks

I had my cholestrol deposits removed about 20 years ago and would never do it again. I don't want to scare anyone but I believe everyone should know the truth. I went to a cosmetic surgeon who did the proceedure in the hospital. He told me he had to do "something nasty" to me.....it was those needles he injected on either side of the bridge of my nose! I swear I have never felt so much pain in my life. After the freezing took effect the rest of course didn't hurt but I was left with 2 black eyes and stitches that had to be removed. Within a year the deposits returned and are worse that ever. My daughter in laws mother also had hers done and would never do it again either. If you can stand the pain of those needles and are willing to keep going back having the proceedure done then power to you.
