the days of cheap flights and holidays are over

I wouldn't say that its all doom and gloom. However changes are going to happen. The trouble is that the public have become used to, and now demand cheap air travel. Unfortunately its not realistic long term. People need to realise that flying somewhere for 2 hours for £50 is totally unrealistic and won't even cover costs.
The trouble is that because these prices are demanded they're being offered, and everyone is selling under cost just to fight for their market share, which as has been seen by todays events will only end in tears.
I don't think it will be all horrors though. The price increases today are purely supply and demand. 200,000 people had forward bookings with XL, thousands will probably have been trying to frantically rebook today. I would imagine flight bookings today have soared, and the airlines computerised yield management systems will have detected this surge in demand and adjusted prices accordingly. It will stabalise, the loss of XL won't mean were all paying 50% more to go places....0 -
the cheapest i found was £152 for 2 weeks from gatwick to rhodes on august 23rd this year via olympic holidays.
i dont see how the cheap packages have gone...0 -
Other way of looking at it is there is less money being spent on holidays as the economy tightens beyond anything we've seen fo many years.
You have to work harder for the leisure £. therefore prices reduce / quality increases.0 -
