How or where to let a room!!!

Don't know if this is the right place for this but we have a room spare in our family home that we would like to rent out, simple enough....no, everywhere we have looked at to advertise this room (websites) all need a fee ranging from 7 pound to 29 pound and we are not getting any joy, so here is my query, does anyone know of a decent sites ie student etc etc where we can advertise to rent the room out, don't mind paying to do so but i would rather a well trusted site. :D

Bankruptcy isn't the worst that can happen to you. The worst that can happen is your forced to live the rest of your life in abject poverty trying to repay the debts.

Are there any colleges or universities local to you? If so ask their student services department or international office.

I have been letting rooms for over 3 years and have always been successful with www.easyroommate.co.uk also www.spareroom.co.uk.

    Basic adds are free.

On a side note: Virtually all postgrads in their fresher/1st year will be leaving home for the 1st time... how many will want to sacrifice the independence and freedom that comes with halls of residence or student houseshare when it comes to a lodger in a family home?

I would possibly rethink your target audience and realise you might want a Mon-Fri professional, if there is a market for them who understands that weekday evenings will be quite restrictive due to your family dynamic...
  • I'm happy with spareroom.co.uk
6 months ago I rented a room out within 4 days. This time it's been on the market for 4 weeks. For the first 3 weeks I have had little amount of interest in the last week I've had loads of interest and 3 viewings.

If your near a uni - large college you should see interest soon. Most students are just getting accepted into uni and start in the next few weeks and the supply of squats drops.
Lets get this straight. Say my house is worth £100K, it drops £20K and I complain but I should not complain when I actually pay £200K via a mortgage:rolleyes:

one of my friends does this in bourenmouth and only lets out to foreign students who are only here for a week or two

the uni pays the bill......the room is always let (150 quid a week)

But it must come up to a certain standard ie internet, double bed, breakfast and evening meal only , TV

He has NEVER had any problems and swaers blind by it
If you find yourself in a fair fight, then you have failed to plan properly

I've only ever been wrong once! and that was when I thought I was wrong but I was right
