Asda Credit - money back vouchers

Options
Has anybody realised that Asda terms & conditions changed last year so that any money back vouchers (issued annually for Asda Stores) are now capped at a measly 300 points a year regardelss of what you spend. This means the maximum cash back is £30 which when compared to the £116.05 I received last year is very disappointing.
Needless to say once the vouchers are received and spent I will be cancelling this card and looking for another. Any suggestions which one is best. We use our credit card for all household spend and pay off in full each month. Regards

There was a thread on here a while ago about the points etc.

I remember being informed of the changes to the T&Cs with one of my statements. It wasn't long after I first got the card. I only use it for 2p discount at Asda petrol stations, but when they made the changes on how points are accrued they stopped Asda petrol purchases from being elligible.

If my memory is correct the transaction has to be at least £4 before it accrues any points, and the points are only accrued in increments of £2.

My latest statement came within the last week and they're actually reducing my interest rate from approx 15.9% to 9.9%, starting in October. They always seem to be offering me 0% balance transfer deals too.

The interest rate doesn't bother me as I always pay the balance in full anyway. But still, it's nice to see a rate actually go down considering how many are being put up lately.

I wouldn't necessarily rush to close it, you could always just keep it as a back up card if anything.

If you pay off the balance in full each month you're probably better off with a cash back credit card (I use one for all other purchases except for the Asda petrol).

Have a read through this guide which gives an overview of some of the cash back cards out there:

  • I was tempted by the 2p off at the filling station, so signed up for the card. Great.... they offer 3 months interest free credit as well, so go for it I thought.
Stack up the credit whilst the cash to pay for it earns 6.55% in my savings account.
So my third bill arrives and it has interest CHARGES. Seems they opened my account on the 14th of the month, but bill me on the 9th, so my third bill [3rd monthly] is 26 days after the end of the free credit period.
Sharp practice if you ask me!
I have remonstrated down the phone to them, an apologetic little girl said she was only the customer services girl and I should have read the T & C's. What I still don't get is how I'm supposed to know what/when to pay if the bill doesn't arrive until 26 days later. Needless to say the scissors will be cutting plastic shortly. Thinking of an ASDA credit card......think again.

made a thread about my query.
  • I use American Express, pay it in full every month and looking forward to my cashback. Not accepted every where, but the main players like my Tesco Shop, Petrol, Meals out etc., are all happy to take it and we manage to load it with over £1,000 each month by my OH having an additional card under my name. I also whip it out when I am out with the work mates for a meal (gathering up the cash) and during the 5% offer in the first three months it often meant I ate and drank for free!!

My Direct Debit is for Payment in Full and they were happy to set this up to come out of my bank on my pay day, so I never have any worries about it being paid on time.

No problems at all with AMEX.
I want to be credit card and loan free by Christmas 2010
