Just a Central heating Power Flush machine.
I rented mine from HSS. They can sell you the chemicals needed but I went to a plumbers merchant because its cheaper.

well when you have a new boiler i all ways put a power flush into the job due to that old pipe work can block the new heat exchangers up and there is no point in doing half a job i charge generally 1900 for a power flush and a worcester bosch 28 kw with wireless stat and clock
when people are doing this diy how do you know if you are doing it right and what about the documation to prove it if a new boiler is every fitted0 -
Powerflushing in itself is not hard. Anyone, with care could do it.
However, add a boilermate into the equation and there starts your problems.
Simplest on is that you will need at least 3 times the amount of chemicals to do a good job. Secondly, depending on which type of boilermate you have, you could have serious problems flushing it then re-filling it.
If it is the old Boilermate 2, then chances are the filling pipe is blocked at the base of the store. You would need to drain, remove the drain off and re-pipe a new filling pipe to this connection if you couldn't unblock it.
There lies another problem, boilermates are very flimsy and it is easy to split the store around this joint. They are also rust buckets!
You could back fill the boilermate and system, but again can be problematic and messy.
I would recommend getting a pro in for this particular job, but even though BG seem way too expensive, their flushes are guarnteed for life. An independent wouldn't offer this guarantee.0 -
Fancy a trip up the M4 "safesound"?!!
I have an old gas system. The boiler sometimes grunts & growls, exudes black water when bleeding radiators but they were heating up OK last time used. Maybe using more gas though ..........?I power flushed my central heating system while ago. Its not hard so long as you are a competent DIYer and can read and follow instructions. My system went from coke colored water to tap water clear, okay it took the best part of a day (6-8hours) but it was well worth the £80 hire fee and the £50 chemicals (actually a bit more because I'm an idiot and I put the inhibitor in before I refilled the system and the pump was leaking from one side, so I had to re-drain and refill with new inhibitor added)
Best of all my heating works again! I spent last winter freezing because my system was so sludged up it wasn't getting any hot water to the radiators (hot water was fine) this year I'm going to be toasty warm
