How long after sale can you open a paypal dispute for?

I sold an item last month on the 12th august. Buyer got back to me today saying she still hasnt received it.. she has waited 30 days to tell me this?!?!? Looks like i am going to have to refund her as i didnt send it recorded or anything, so have no choice. But out of curiosity, how long is it til she can no longer open a dispute? Just wondering because if i am to refund her... i will have to sell some stuff first to get the money in my account, as you cant do a refund unless you have money in your PP already... ggrrr

The buyer has 45 days from payment to raise a dispute.

  • Okay thanks. She seems nice, So i guess i will just email her and tell her i cant refund her until next week when i will have money in my paypal.. and hope she takes it okay!! I still dont believe she never received it though... maybe im not a trusting person but i dont see why she waited 30 days to tell me... also none of the items ive ever sold have gone missing... but my fault for not sending recorded i guess.... it's only going to be a £15 loss!

  • £15!! rather stand the neg, I always offer optional recorded del on my listings or cannot be held responsible if items go missing in the post. Like you say, seems funny her taking 30 days to raise it, if I dont receive something within the week that I have bought I always drop a quick email to check if its on its way. (bit fishy 30 days dont you think?)

No you cannot be responsible for them going missing, but you are responsible for the delivery. If its doesn't arrive the seller must make the post office claim for a lost item and refund the buyer. Paypal will side with the buyer without proof of delivery.

Comments life that are worthless and many buyers will avoid and it shows the seller is either a K@%B or has very little understanding of ebay rules.
  • I have 913 feedback at 100% ... and dont really want a neg over £15.. not worth it!! Only just got rid of my last one (got it 12 months ago so it fell off my feedback)
Jockey666 is right by the way. and if she had opened a dispute.. paypal would have refunded her.. so id rather do it myself. Just done it anyways, so i can relax and forget about her now... and continue to send recorded in the future!

Worse than that, it confirms in advance to a scammer that you're not going to send tracked. I'd imagine that selling a mobile with that text would be easy :D .

Why would I, as a Buyer, pay extra for recorded delivery when it is your responsibility, as a Seller, to get the item to me???
