Barclay Card Interest Rate

I have a BarclayCard Initial card. How long do you normally have to wait before requesting an interest rate reduction? (And a credit limit increase?)

Comments

  • Customer services told me at least 3 months for credit limit increase and 12 months for rate reduction. HTH.

    12 months!

Do they stick rigidly to this or are they flexible?

Don't borrow on a credit card like this unless you absolutely have to!

If you have a reasonable income and just a non-existant credit history, wait 3 months and try applying for a more mainstream card with a lower APR and a zero % introductory offer.

Smile :), it makes people wonder what you have been up to.

I have a couple of defaults (approx £4k in total) which is why I went for that card as my own bank wouldn't give me one.

I have a decent salary (currently £20k, going up to approx £25k in the next month or two), have recently just got a mortgage so there are lenders willing to take me on.

Who should I try next bearing in mind the above?
