Fitting new motherboard to pc ?

Ive been given a PC case from a friend, he said he wasnt sure if anything still works and i was wondering if i could buy another motherboard and swap it with the 1 thats already inside,

I think the OP should do it as a learning project and gain the experience
Maybe stick Linux on it once fixed and learn a little about that too..

A P500 goes for something like £20 on a good day, so it's unlikely to be profitable in any other way..
