Why has my electricity useage increased?
Options
I don't have a clue? I usually take monthly readings and submit them online to EON, I was a bit late this month (around a week). They have an energy tracker, which shows August as going up loads! I can't think of anything that we could have used more than the previous month, certainly not enough to virtually double the useage...any clues?

The red line is last year, the solid bars this year. And yes I have been with EON over a year, but then they keep being the cheapest

New gadget/appliance? Something faulty? People staying?0

Surely if you submitted the August reading one week late, then that would account for the August bar being higher than it is in reality. i.e. you would expect it to roughly follow the trend similar to the previous year. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

It has been darker and colder this august than last year. Perhaps you've had lights etc on more often and been in watching TV more?
If you're really worried turn off EVERYTHING in your house. If the meter keeps moving then you have a faulty meter.
I suspect its more to do with the inclement weather we've had though0 -
If the red line is last year, your usage seems to be exactly the same as last August
I know my August usage is higher then last year mainly due to the lousy summer.0 -

Or the light keeps flashing.
The new digital meters have flashing lights and no wheel
Hope they don't change me anytime soon. I like my little wheel.

I thought the fact it was one week late might have had an effect, but the way the usage is calculated is kwh used divided by the number of days, so it shouldn't really make much of a difference. As I haven't knowingly used any more energy (and we were on holiday for a week) I would have thought it would be closer to July's usage.
I will try switching everything off etc and see if that makes a difference.
Would the lights alone account for that kind of rise? I can't imagine it would make that much difference.....0 -
Are you certain that they have used the actual readings you sent, and not estimated meter readings?0

Well, looking at your graph, your August usage is similar to that of January, Febuary and March. Most people tend to stay in more and have more lights on during those months (not to mention August weather being fairly similar this year!!!)0 -
Maybe you should try doing a daily reading from now until the end of September and see how it equates.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no: 203.0

I know this may seem a silly question, but do you have school age children? They are at home all August.0
