Credit card cheques - can I pay them into my bank acc

I have just recieved a 0% with 2.99% fee deal from one of my CCs in the form of some cheques. I want to use one to pay off another CC whos 0% deal runs out in Oct. The 2nd CC is online only and cannot accept cheque payments (at least I can't find anywhere that it says they do!), so could I pay the cheque into my current acc and then pay off the 2nd CC that way? Then I still get the effect of paying off the CC with the cheque

If it helps, they are Sky card cheques...

Cheers

Sarah

Be careful here. Sky Card is a Barclays product and they don't usually allow Super Balance Transfers. By paying them into your Bank Account it is possible that they will treat this as a Cash Advance and charge you accordingly.

My advice would be to call them, explain it as you have done so here, and ask if they will definitely honour the 0% deal if you pay them into your Bank Account.

    Good Luck.
  • Thanks Nick, I didn't think of that!

Bit confused with your comment, SarahNeedle1872 said that they where cheques. So how else you can use them if you don't put into a bank account whether it be your own, your friend round the corner or the local supermarket [assumming take cheque and no guarantee card]

Mint periodically issues credit card cheques, which can be paid directly into your current account. You're charged at the balance transfer rate, in this case 0%.

Caution: other lenders (eg. Barclaycard, Halifax) issue credit card cheques from time to time. These can be used to settle bills/pay off other credit cards, but if you paid one into your bank account, you'd be charged for a cash withdrawal - not recommended, not unless you have money to burn.

The idea is that when your CC bill comes, you pay it off using the Giro slip at the bottom of the bill - but I don't get paper bills for this account, so that would be useless for me, hence wanting to pay it into my bank so I can pay the CC bill online but still benefit from the 0% offer.

As noted above, Sky Card is operated by Barclays bank. You may be charged for a cash withdrawal.

Irrespective of what anyone tells you here though, it's your Ts & Cs that count. If the paperwork isn't clear, I would ring customer services and explain your predicament.

    Very best

I'm a Mint customer and that's always been the case till now but, as you know, things can change over time, so if your Ts & Cs don't spell this out, I would phone up and ask.

If you ring Mint Customer Services on 01702 351155, you'll avoid the dreaded 0870/0845 numbers ;)
