How to find prices of houses sold in my area?

I am thinking of selling my house, yes, I know it is a silly time to do it, but circumstances might dictate that I need to. So I want to get a realistic feel of what it is worth, I do not want to involve an estate agent just yet until I am certain, (I don't want to be endlessly hassled on the telephone.)

I have found several websites that list houses sold and the prices they sold for, but they don't give much detail of the house. I drove past one and had a good gawp over the hedge, but I could not really tell if it was similar to mine or not.

What I really want is a website where it gives the EA's spec. or similar details about the house and the price it sold for. Is there such a site?

Thanks for your time.

Rightmove - by postcode eg: M40 - drills down by street so you can search in tyour area

by closer postcode does just that road (or half a road)

    This does it by map.

Thanks for your replies. I am surprised that there is not a site like this, maybe a hole in the market for some enterprising person.:rotfl:

You could try Hometrack (easily found if you Google it).

When I tried it, it gave me an idea of what has sold in my area; the price it sold at and when.

For a fee (I think about £20) you can buy your valuation.

Getting all the info together would make it a nightmare. Who is going to find out how many bedrooms each property has? Has it been extended? What condition the properties are in, and who decides what makes it a good property, an average property etc.

there was a site run by housemouse which had bedroom numbers on it - but they were so many wrong that it was not worth using

If you're looking in the area you live then it's time to take a walk round and get to know the streets - that way you'll know that one side of a road is terraced and the other is semis. etc etc.
  • Properties are selling, but at the right price.
