Cheapest way to get an iPod Nano

I'm after one of the new iPod Nano's, however i'm a stingy sod and want to get it as cheap as possible.

I dont think many places (ie any) have offers on the brand new product, so i'm looking at using Quidco, tradedoubler, etc, OR A Nus student discount card.

Any ideas?

If you wait a little while, they'll start showing up in Apple's refurb store:

Apple seem to get away with fixing the price some how between the various retailers in the UK, so far I've only being able to find dabs.com sell the new nano cheaper, but that's only £5 cheaper.

It's abit of a con, the UK is paying 30% more for ipods compared to the USA, taking into account exchange rates and tax I think we shouldn't pay more than 10%

Rip of Britain - again !!
  • unfortunatley while theres demand for products they will get away with it, the only way is to vote with your feet and not purchase said items.

It probably has something to do with the fact that Apple also sell iPods themselves.

It's pretty hard to undercut your supplier.

Yes, if you're earning pounds and you then change those pounds into dollars, iPods are a bit cheaper in the US (If purchased in NY, the 8gb Nano would be £18 cheaper). But, if you're an American living in America earning dollars, then quite often things aren't cheaper. They treat a dollar the way we would treat a pound. A $149 Nano doesn't cost them £91, it costs them $149.

Yup, especially when the supplier threatens to freeze you out if you offer a bit of competition.

OP, are you dead set on the iPod?

There are alternatives that cost less and sound better...

Only really a possibility if someone can buy iPods cheaper than Apple can.

    Which they can't.

You've heard a 4th gen Nano have you?

No, but they could just sell at a reduced margin and up their volumes, which Apple won't let them.

No, I've not heard a 4th gen, and I suspect the OP hasn't either. I've heard the 2nd and 3rd gens though, and while they're good, there are other brands that whup them in terms of sound quality, and they won't leave you a step behind the Joneses this time next year.

    I guess they could.

It's still not price fixing though.

There are mp3 players out now that have better features than Apple's will next year?

    Do tell.

What makes the biggest difference in sound are the earphones you use. I wish Apple would stop using those awful ones they include with the iPod.

Hmmmm.... next year's iPod Nano, let me guess; it will play music (preferably in Apple's proprietary format) and play videos on an undersized screen.
