Co-op Cashminder for former customers?

I thought I read somewhere on here that Co-op was not an option if you had been a customer of theirs. Is that correct?

I didn't owe them anything, but used to have an account there. Is that going to matter?

  • You can try....they recently seem to have stopped giving people cashminder accounts that owed the co-op monies...although STILL NO CONFIRMATION from the co-op about this

only other try is barclays....they do a basic account

  • I didn't owe them anything.
  • thats why I said its worth a try....they might end up saying the account is being "referred" just means they'll be doing further background checks so hopefully will see you didnt owe them anything....did you have a bank account with the co-op? might be worth asking if they would consider downgrading it to a basic account?

  • Problem is Abbey & A&L are not one of the most bankrupt freindly banks they'll ONLY take you if your discharged from BR there's no consistency they seem to give accounts to some & not to others where as barclays & the co-op your almost guaranteed one or the other banjkrupt or not

  • Halifax do a basic account (Easycash) with no credit check. Comes with Visa Electron and full direct debit facilities, etc, although no cheque book. But who needs one of those nowadays?

  • Frank, Halifax are not BR friendy. The only BR friendly banks are Co-op and Barclays.

  • I'd owed them about a grand on one of their travel credit cards but still got the account as members here mentioned they were the only ones that allowed direct debits, not sure if thats still the case though,

Did I not read somewhere on here that Nat West accept BRs? I cannot go to Barclays they were one of my creditors when I entered into a now failed IVA.

I have also read to leave it til after the court hearing to open a Co Op account is that correct?

I hope you are able to re open your Co Op account albeit a downgrade to the basic account.

  • Hi Rylynn

I'm sure I've seen somewhere on here that Barclays will still accept you for a basic account even if you owed them money but I could be wrong.

I only say this because my ex OH banked with Barclays before his BR but downgraded to a basic account and Barclays were ok with it.

    Good luck.
