Credit Card Sale of Bad Debt. - default notices.

I have been on an arrangement since 2004 with a debt with a lender, paying as much as i could afford. They have decided to sale this debt along with my personal details in 2008 this year to another company, which i understand is perfectly legal.

The thing i'm annoyed about is the new company have added a default notice to my credit file dated jun'08. Now i have never had any agreement with this company to default on! I contacted the orginal company who sold the debt and they simply said it's nothing to do with them anymore.

are companies legally allowed to add default notices to your account when i have not signed an agreement with them ?

I am fine with the orginal lender filing a default notice as long as it is correctly dated and maintained.
