Help with joint account

Hi there, was wondering if anyone could please help.
My girlfriend and I are looking into getting a joint account from which we could pay both our wages into and also set up our direct debits for all bills.
We were also wanting one ideally that could be linked to a higher interest savings account to put away any bits left over, but would allow us the ability to instantly transfer the funds back over 'In an emergency'.
I'm not too sure where to start with all this so that I would ask you guys for any input/advice you have on this matter.
Many thanks:beer:

A lot depends on how much you will be paying in each month, whether you require cheque books, whether you wish to use internet banking/ post/ branch etc.
Coventry Building Society offers a current account paying 5.6% on the whole balance with Direct Debits, Standing Orders and VISA debit cards. You have to pay in £1000 per month to earn that rate and there is no cheque book.

Nationwide Flexaccount offers a full current account service. Interest of up to 3.5% is paid on the first £3000 of the balance (the rate actually paid depends on how much is paid in each month). Any funds over £3000 could be switched into an e-saver account earning over 5%. Funds can be transferred back instantly into the Flexaccount if required.

Halifax also have a good High Interest Current account, and some internet savings accounts that pay over 5%.
The current account pays a good rate on up to £2500 balance, again there is a minimum funding requirement of £1000 per month, and you get cheque book, card etc. And instant transfers.
IF also do a good internet saving account (6.4% I think), not sure about their current account though.0
