Can You Have Ncd On Two Cars?

HOPE SOMEBODY CAN POINT ME IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION BEFORE I START RINGING AROUND FOR QUOTES

My partner has full ncb on his main car it is quite heavy on juice but we need it to tow our caravan in the summer. we are talking about getting a little run around just for pottering about and maybe for his son who is 18 and just passed his test to use when he stays with us at weekends, would my partner be able to use his ncb on two cars at the same time

A quick reply - not really.

Some companies might give you an introductory NCB based on your other driving experience, for example when I tried to do it for 2 cars, I was given something like 5 years instant 2nd no claims for the 2nd car.

But - if you have, say, 8 years NCB - you can't insure both cars at once with 8 years NCB, you have to build up 2 lots .... unless you find a company which let's you insure both and they know about the situation,

Hope that helps a bit ....

Insurance companies vary in their policies. Most will say the NCD is for the first car only. However, if you insure both cars with the same company then they are often quite happy to give you the same (or partial) discount on the second car. Admiral is one company I know will offer full NCD on 2 cars, but ring around to find the best deal!

My husband wanted to insure a second car with Privilege, who he was already with. However they offered no concessions on NCD for the second car. He used confused.com website link from this site and insured the second car with another insurer. They offered one year NCD on the second car and was given a much fairer offer.

I was with Diamond who mirrored my NCD on my second car, So the following year I changed Insurance companies, and still had two cars with full no claims
  • When I moved from having one car to having two cars I got an additional 15% discount on the insurance for each car but the second car had to start with 0 years no claim bonus and work up from there. On the other hand if a claim was made on one of the cars it did not affect the NCB on the other car.

You can get a mirrored NCB for a second car, but not if you want an 18 year old on it. Most policies (for second cars) have a clause which states that each driver must be 25 or over. This is to stop people buying a 2nd car for relatives who are 18. If it is just for you and your other half then you should get a reasonable discount (equivalent to your current NCB) from most reasonable insurers.

Good luck! Just ring round as many people as possible! There is no advice which will get the you the cheapest quote, insurance is too complicated for that! And report back to us where you get a good price ... I'm sure there are lots of people in an identical situation to you.
