I need to go to London from Manchester on 23rd November, either coming back the same day or on the 24th. But I can't find any trains going down on the 23rd. There don't seem to be any railworks going on, none listed on the Virgin site anyway, and it's their line. There are tickets available for the Monday, so it's not like they haven't been released yet.

Am I missing something obvious?

It is likely that there will be engineering works on the 23rd, but they have not yet been confirmed, therefore advance tickets have not been released.

Edit: if you use https://www.nationalrail.co.uk you will see that there are no direct trains and your looking at a MINIMUM journey time of four hours.

Check again each week and see if anything changes.

That's what I was finding, with no direct services, but there are no planned engineering works listed anywhere. I didn't realise they might just not have listed them yet, thanks for the info.

Another option could be to get a ticket from Leeds to London- they've been released and you could get a there and back for about £33 including the £10 return from Manc to Leeds with trains very frequent and only taking about an hour

Might not be suitbale but just thought I'd throw it in as an option

Thanks for the suggestion, but it won't work. I think it might have to be the coach :-(
