Did you use you soapnuts yet and do you like them?0 -
I think they smell like mild cheese...
When I first tried these I thought they were useless because my boyfriend's tshirts still smelled of BO, although sometimes regular powder/liquid isn't strong enough for him either.
Yesterday I washed the towels with them and ignored the dosage and filled up the whole little bag that comes with them (in the Lakeland box anyway). My towels came out smelling like strawberries! Very weird but I've now put on a load of clothes with the same nuts as yesterday plus I squeezed a couple of fresh ones in. If these turn out okay I'll know to just use far more than the packet says.
Good point about the transport pollution, not sure how we could compare them to normal detergents though.0 -

Am washing on standard wash but ideally want to start doing 30 degree wash and quick cycle on dishwasher. Do you think the soapnuts will still clean as well???
:j If you do a cold wash then you should soak the soapnuts in hot water for 5-10 minutes.
:j In the diswasher I prefer to use soapnut liquid. To preserve the liquid, after I boil the soapnuts I freeze the liquid in an ice cube tray and then just use the ice cubes as needed.0 -
Shampoo and body alternative
Soapnut powder can be applied directly to your hair and body to replace soap and shampoo. Soapnut is also used to remove head lice. Very little is needed, around a teaspoon of soapnut powder for long hair; but be aware that when used in this way, it won't lather like ordinary shampoos. As with anything new you apply to your skin, it's always best to test first on a small area first, and if you're allergic to nuts; play it safe and don't experiment.
Because soap nuts are not really a nut but the dried skin of a berry (soap berry) I dont think people with nut allergies have any thing to worry about.;)0 -

I have now been sent the missing quantity from my order! Result!
I'm still a bit unhappy (sorry I'm difficult to please!). The soapnut company sent the nut as well as the shell unlike other companies (such as in a soap nut shell) that send the shell. As I understand it you only need the shell for washing so the nut is a little unnecessary! So I don't really think I got a bargain afterall!
Oh well you live and learn!
Hi nonstepfordwife,
Before you write another negative comment about another tiny business because of a genuine mistake maybe you should take a moment and think:
No postage is FREE- it's just means that the business owner is working for a lot smaller margin/taking less profit then others that do charge you postage.
Everyone expects an ethical/green business - to pay everyone involved a fair wage, to offer free postage, give away gifts and to be there at the end of the phone for a chat. When a mistake is made to be so quick to spread the word without any consideration and giving anyone a chance to correct it! Ethical shopping is not about just shopping at ethical sites, it’s also about being an ethical consumer. How do we run an ethical business when our customer is so unethical!?0
