Competitions and Apex Credit Management...

Hi there, I'm new to these boards, but I have discovered something rather disturbing and thought i'd share it. I have had debt, but I haven't actually run one up since 1997, and the company stopped chasing me about five years ago. I only very very recently learnt my new phone number after moving and have started entering it into competition forms. There is no other way that that number could have got out and all of a sudden, Apex Credit Management are calling me from seven thirty in the morning, and then every ten minutes to one hour, without let up. I don't know what they could possibly want from me, but I'm not talking to them, I know how sneaky and disgusting those companies are.
So yes, I thought i'd say, be careful, clearly no ones details are safe these days.

Thanks for that. You might want to consider using tps Telephone preference service to opt out of receiving unsolicited sales calls, its free and if, after you've registered (takes up to a month), you get any more calls from them you can tell them you are registered with tps, the calls should soon stop, and then you can also report them to tps online, who should sort out the nuisance calls for you.
Info is on the site below, good luck!

There was yes, but I wasn't in any position due to illness, having no home etc to pay it off, and I was told that after a certain amount of years the debt is written off. I had paid a fair chunk off from the little I had.
Today they have called since seven am, every ten minutes. It's not helping my migraine particularly.
Oh, and thanks for the tip regarding opt out, I shall be doing just that!0 -
As someone on another thead just pointed out,tps only deal with sales and marketing calls, and this wouldn't be covered by this.
There is another board called debt free wannabee and the people on those boards will have experience of dealing with this.0 -
It is a well known fact that shopper surveys etc are used to correct records or find out where people are. We used to have them all the time in one place mes and Freda lived, they always offered some Lindt Chocs to go with the survey and as Freda loves Chocs, we always filled them out, using a false name and address. Companies have varous ways to find out where people live, freebies and competions are just some of them. I understand that some programme of the oggle box using the pretext of a talent show to gather in rogues.
As for the 6 year rule, if they have been making effort to collect any 'previous' debt during the time since 1997, then I believe this does not apply.0 -
I was on a cheap flight a few months ago,and they passed round a questionnaire , minute chance to win some prize.
It would have passed the time a bit,and I had no objection to filling in a questionnaire rating the service-but when I read all the small print,it was passing your info on to other companies, that's sneaky.Giving the impression they cared about your opinions,in reality, flogging your data!!0 -
I can't believe this is legal, it's on the verge of harassment they're calling that often. I didn't realise the six year rule didn't apply if they'd been trying to get hold of you for a debt collection, as I had paid some off. Oh dear, just as I thought the misery of it was in the past....0

The six year rule applies AS LONG AS you have not acknowledged the debt or contacted the company concerned.0
