Hi All,
I have just taken a banana cake out of the freezer. It is wrapped in foil and then a plastic bag. Do I need to unwrap it to defrost it? Will it go soggy if I dont??
Thanks,
Al.

I'd really like to help you out here but I've never had enough cake left over to freeze in my whole life!
Erm... I'd have thought unwrapped would be best? If you've done bread before, which way was best for that?Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. I will help Squeaky out here,
I have always defrosted cakes wrapped, especially if I have to do them quickly in the microwave. Best way for freezing and defrosting is to seal the cake in greaseproof and then wrap in tinfoil. When required just lift out of your freezer and leave it to it.
Obviously if your're defrosting in the microwave, remove the tinfoil. We don't want anyone to have an accident.
Hope this helps0 -
I think wrapped is best so that as it defrosts the moisture can be reabsorbed back into the cake. If you get bread out of the freezer and let it defrost in the open it ends up really dry so it should be the same principle I would think. Too late for your cake now anyway, how was it?0
