I was going to suggest colouring in as a way to calm them down when they get too rowdy. Always a favourite of mine! Another good one is to play Sleeping Lions; they all lie on the floor and have to be quiet and still (bliss!) anyone who giggles or moves is out until you are left with a winner.
You could also do a treasure map. If you are artistic, draw one, or sometimes you can buy them and they all have to place their "X" (you need to have decided in advance where the treasure is!)
Is it all boys? If you have girls too, you could always do some dancing. Get songs like Cha Cha slide, macarena - but you (or someone) has to stand at the front and lead the way with the actions!
Have a lovely party.0 -

Sleeping lions sounds good! Another one to add to the list. Think I need to put all the ones I like on a list and then get MIL to choose a couple as she knows how much space we have/don't have and props etc.
Its girls and boys, a mix, basically I invited his whole class, twins from a different class and then the rest is a mix of friends from home. (not that many as we haven't been up here that long)
Your last idea about makarena etc ... erm thats rubbish ... mainly cause there is no way on this earth I would dance like that lmao :rotfl:
Thanks for your suggestions they are fantastic

My eldest ds is a bit older but we had a picture quiz at his party in April.
They all loved it inc my 6 yearold.
It went down very well.
Every one who got them all right went into a draw and we picked 3 winners who all won a bar of chocloate.

Hi Rusty!
A game I use to play when I was young enough to go to birthday parties (feels like a lifetime ago now lol) was where you got 4 numbers (or you could go with Star Wars characters to keep the theme going) and each was either pinned up or held up by someone in a corner. Music is played and everyone dances then the music stops and all the kids have to run and pick a corner. Then either someone not in the room or someone picks an envelope which will eliminate all those in that corner. E.g. someone picks Yoda, everyone in Yoda's corner is out. Then once you get to the last few they have to pick different corners from each other and once you are down to one you get a winner!! Saving hard for a brighter future!:beer:0 -
As you have lots of space how about some sports day type team games. It might sound a bit boring but children at that age always seem to enjoy them and costs next to nothing.
You could do egg and spoon (table tennis ball or something similar if you don't want to hardboil eggs); sack race (you could always use strong bin bags); hopping; three legged.
At my daughter's last party we had a couple of space hoppers and got them to bounce along in two teams carrying something to the other end (a flower to put in a vase as it was a flower party) and then turn round and back to the next in line who does the same. ... Another team game that is fun but simple is to pass the ball to the back of the line - one person bending down to pass it through their legs to the person behind who passes it over their head to the next person in the line. The ball goes all the way down the line when the person at the back runs with the ball to the front and starts all over again. The winning team is the one in which everyone has had a turn at the front of the line.
I know you are clever with crafty stuff so for a cheap and quiet activity you could make foam door plaques if you have any spare bits and pieces lying around at home. You just need to cut an A5 foam sheet in half and punch two holes at the top and then thread through some ribbon, wool etc. They need to write their name in the middle and then decorate round the edge with foam shapes, buttons or any other bits you might have at home that are suitable.
I hope this all makes sense and most of all that the party is lots of fun (and not too exhausting).0 -
Another take on the bursting balloons, wich went down pretty well at a party dd(6) went to a while ago is to pop a little present, or it could be a sweet, in one or two balloons and they have to pop then to find it. They had about 30 balloons and just let them all go in the centre of the room. It was manic, but the kids loved it, of course!
Also, they will often dance and/lark about quite happily to (loud) music for a while at least, I find.
At dd's fourth party, they decorated their own cup to take their cake and goodies home in. We just bought cheap paper cups and made some paper handles for them - we stapled those on after they'd decorated them. Then they put any sweets they won during the games into their cup to take home (not sure if you'd convince 6 year olds to part with them though? )0 -
we did a collage at ds' party last year (he was 9 but am sure younger children would like doing this too) which went down well. we took a roll of lining paper, loads of old comics and some glue. it was a last minute idea OH had but they loved it. we then took a photo of them holding it up.saving for ds2's summer international scout camp - £200
